Lucia D’Anna, an Italian cellist, began playing the cello at a young age. She studied at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan with Marco Bernardin, later earning her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in cello performance and music pedagogy at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Switzerland, where she studied under Taisuke Yamashita and Mattia Zappa.
Lucia participated in numerous masterclasses, learning from distinguished teachers such as Rocco Filippini in Lugano, Dario De Stefano, Julius Berger at the Mozarteum Salzburg Summer School, Zvi Plesser, and Enrico Bronzi. She became the principal cellist of the Jugged Sinfonie Orchester Aargau and performed with the Jugend Bayerische Orchestra and Jeunesse Musicales de Suisse. She also participated in the Teatro alla Scala Academy in Milan for two years and played as a cellist with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano. Lucia has performed in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, China, and Israel. Currently, she performs in solo recitals and chamber music concerts in Israel. She has always had a deep interest in contemporary and Baroque music.
In contemporary music, Lucia has taken part in festivals such as the Neon and Caffeine Festival in Lugano and the ‘900 Festival in Lugano. She has also performed the premieres of works by living composers from various countries. She attended a masterclass with the Arditti Quartet in Lucas Fels’ class and collaborated with her father-in-law to create a show that combines solo cello performance with live ink and water painting.
Lucia’s passion for Baroque music led her to begin playing the Baroque cello in Italy with the Academia dell’Annunciata, an academy affiliated with Giardino Armonico. She studied Baroque cello with Marcello Scandelli, Martin Zeller, and Myrna Herzog. Later, she also devoted time to studying the Viola da Gamba with Myrna Herzog at the Tel Aviv Conservatory. She attended masterclasses with Rinaldo Alessandrini, Gaetano Nasillo, Paolo Beschi, Enrico Onofri, Enrico Gatti, and Wieland Kuijken.
She has given masterclasses for cellists in Italy (Reggio Emilia) and Ramallah. In 2022, she co-founded the Ensemble Music Academies Palestine (EMAP) with Luca Franzetti and Michele Cantoni, launching the first Baroque Academy in Bethlehem.
